Skincare Routine while working at home & Summerize your skin
Skincare Routine
Kelly Muciy, co-founder and brand manager of Zyderma® HS shares skincare tips while working at home.
Here is our Q&A:
Q: With more people working at home during COVID-19, some may not follow a proper skincare routine as before, what tips would you give to get back into a daily routine?
A: Since we are not regularly “racing” to work during rush hour, taking transit, exercising at the gym, running errands, and chauffeuring the kids, etc. we tend not to feel as grimy. Skincare could easily have fallen to the wayside for some. Having said that, our skin can be affected by stress and an altered diet resulting in problematic skin and would benefit greatly from a gentle but effective daily routine to maintain proper hygiene. Rethink your approach to skincare now and make it a priority in your day. Start by drinking more water (add lemon & cucumber for flavor and nutrients), wash up in the morning and again before bed. Get excited about revisiting the products you have in your collection. Why did you initially purchase them? If you like, gradually add them back into the rotation, see what still works, or does not. Allow yourself this time to de-stress and meditate. These small thoughtful actions will not only contribute to healthy-looking skin but also to your mental wellbeing.
Q: What is a daily proper skincare routine to follow?
A: A straight forward daytime routine for anyone would be: Cleanse, apply toner, then a serum and/or moisturizer, and follow up with a sunscreen. A night-time routine may also include treatment products and a heavier moisturizer or a night cream.
Q: What happens if you missed a day of proper skincare, is there a product would you like to recommend to help keep your skin looking healthy?
A: For most people missing a day of skincare is no problem. In fact, some might even find that their complexions are improving during lockdown due to paying less attention to their skin! Less picking & touching of the skin, less intense and/or frequent treatments, and wearing little to no make-up could all be exactly what your skin needed to start functioning normally again.
Maintaining a skincare routine that will support your skin’s balance, can be achieved with our Gentle Foaming Cleanser.
Gentle Foaming Cleanser that respects the barrier function of the epidermis, along with a gentle exfoliating product such as our Konjac Facial Sponge with Tourmaline to slough away dead skin cells without causing damage. If your skin is sensitive and problematic, the same advice applies but consider adding the Clarifying Cream. Made with micronized silver it helps manage bacteria on the skin’s surface that can cause or worsen a skin issue.
Following up as previously mentioned with a moisturizer and sunscreen are recommended.
Q: How do we get our skin summer ready to keep it from drying, sunburned, or/and blemishes?
A: A gentle routine during the summer months is key to keeping your skin healthy-looking. Avoid using acids and other active ingredients during the day and use it in moderation throughout the week, preferably at night. Prolonged or misuse of products designed to promote cellular renewal can induce photosensitive skin that overreacts to sunlight making the skin more susceptible to sunburns, blistering, and discoloration. This is especially true for people with darker skin types with higher melanin content which can lead to a greater risk of Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).
During the day, we recommend using our Clarifying Cream to manage problematic skin. It’s a light moisturizer (perfect summer) formulated with micronized silver that supports the skin until rinsed away and can be reapplied as often as needed throughout the day. It can also be used as a makeup primer and in combination with other photo-stable topicals and sunscreens. It’s a gentle way to support the skin’s natural healing process daily.
Q: Is there anything else you like to add?
A: This is unquestionably a tough time for us all on every possible level. As restrictions ease for businesses and protests continue to grow in numbers through the warm months, please remember to wear your masks and wash your hands frequently with soap. It might be annoying and feel uncomfortable but consider the purpose… To help keep the virus from spreading and to save lives. Rethink the importance of your role, in a potential chain reaction. You, while supporting your fellow humans, would in effect be protecting them too. We are all in this together. Wishing everyone peace and good health.
