Coco de Mer Fragrance Marks a Bold Moment Beyond Juneteenth

On a summer night thick with memory and meaning, the heart of Harlem pulsed to a different rhythm. The Victoria Theater—golden, lush, and aglow with tropical light—opened its doors to a sacred gathering on Juneteenth. This wasn’t just a celebration. It was a call to remember. And to reclaim.
The occasion? The U.S. debut of Coco de Mer Fragrance Co., a woman-owned perfume house rooted in the Seychelles and steeped in sensual mythology. Known as the only brand in the world to feature the natural essence of the rare Coco de Mer seed, the label brought more than scent—it brought story, soul, and sovereignty.

As guests arrived, they stepped into a sensory garden. Palms arched overhead. Tables shimmered with jewel-toned florals, gold-rimmed glassware, and fragrant bowls of lemongrass, clove, and orchid. Each seat was a portal; each moment was designed to awaken.

The air itself seemed to shift—infused with notes from five signature fragrances: Fanm, Zonm, Sovaz, Lodas, and Oud. Each scent told its own truth. Sovaz offered a bracing sunrise of spice and sea air. Zonm crackled with citrus heat and power. Lodas, lush and green, softened the room like a velvet breeze.

Gathered around the tables were cultural icons whose presence felt both grounded and transcendent: author Anita Kopacz, activist Abdul Tubman, actress and environmentalist Yvonna Kopacz Wright, designer Carlton Jones, and ballroom legend Lasseindra Lanvin. Their voices—deliberate, generous—wove together a modern myth of identity, healing, and freedom.
“LODAS isn’t just a fragrance,” said Kopacz. “It’s a remembering. I wear it to return—to my body, to my ancestors, to my breath.”

As glasses clinked and laughter echoed against the grand, golden columns, the room became more than an event. It became a ritual. A layered celebration of Black and Creole legacy, artistry, and the power of scent memory to carry us back home—or forward into who we’re becoming.
Though Juneteenth has passed, its spirit lingers in the air like the final notes of Oud—deep, earthy, unforgettable. Coco de Mer Fragrance reminds us that liberation is not a moment on the calendar. It’s a fragrance on your skin. A legacy you wear. A love story that never fades.
